Features of the Char Griller 5050

The Char Griller 5050 is two distinct grills set side by side on one handy cart. The cart has room for the propane tank underneath the gas side of the grill with storage space under the charcoal side with a wire rack giving you two storage shelves.  The cart only has two wheels making the grill with the propane tank somewhat difficult to move.

Gas Grill Features

  • The gas grill features 3 burners with an electronic ignition for easy start up and for more even heating.
  • Front heat control panel makes for easy controlling of the temperatures on the gas side.
  •  There is also a warming rack on the side of the grill, that can be used as a small work space when the warming rack is not in use.

Charcoal Grill Features

  • Easy dump ash pan to make clean up easier
  • Adjustable grate heights along with the damper helps to control temperature.
  • The charcoal grill can be used as a smoker if you purchase the side box

Features of Both Grills

  • Cast Iron grates for increased durability
  • 1260 square inches of cooking space between the two grills allows for plenty of cooking space for that backyard bbq with friends and extended family.
  • Square legs on the cart for added durability

One needs to keep in mind that depending on where the Char Griller 5050 is purchased it runs between $225.00 and a little over $400.00.  Which is incredibly inexpensive for a double grill such as this one. Be aware that because the company has designed an inexpensive grill for those consumers that want both a charcoal and gas grill combination that this grill will not have the same features or durability as a top of the line double grill.

When reading the reviews for this grill you will notice a distinct difference in user ratings.  This difference has more to do with user expectations than the grill itself. Those who rated this grill high had realistic expectations of what a duel grill of this price would and would not do, while those who gave it low ratings were looking for a top end double grill at a discounted price.

That being said it should be noted that several reviewers found that the charcoal grill was less than air tight making it difficult to keep a constant temperature when charcoal grilling. While this doesn’t seem to be much of a problem for those who simply want to grill using charcoal it can make a huge difference to those who want to use the grill as a smoker as wind can raise the heat considerably making for difficult smoking at low temperatures.
